WHAT IS A STORM DRAIN?

The storm drain is an element of the sewer system. It is used to collect rainwater (and water roads washing) and to convey it to the sewer system.

The grid is the main component of the storm drain. It allows the passage of water but, above all, avoids the passage of objects that can obstruct sewer pipes.

The problem

The storm drains connect the road surface to a humid and unhealthy underground world. Sewers are a natural and protected habitat for mice, beatles, cockroaches and insects such as the mosquitos and other annoying animals which carry important diseases. Without forgetting the bad odor which comes out and the continuous obstructions due to sand, foliage etc. that fall inside.
The bodies in charge (Municipalities and / or private citizens) are always forced to a systematic purging of the wells and disinfestation of drains, wells and related pipes, which involves the use of poisons, harmful to the environment and whose cost isn’t negligible!

Case “A” drought ⇒ closed, the device ensures insulation between the road environment and the underground pipes, avoiding the passage of bad smells, insects, rats and other animals.
Case “B” low rainfall ⇒ partially open, the system allows a little water to drain into the well, while retaining leaves and debris.
Case “C” heavy rainfall ⇒ completelly open, when the volume of rainwater reaches consistent levels, the valve of the device opens completely allowing the passage of the foliage which, accompanied by the fast water flow, passes quickly from the well to the sewers.
